About College

The Himachal Pradesh Govt. Dental College & Hospital was established in the year 1994. The college is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University and and recognized by Dental Council of India and Govt of India with the annual intake of 60 seats in BDS and 23 seats in various streams of Postgraduate Dental Sciences. The college provides free dental treatment to the BPL and IRDP families of the state. This college is also contributing towards “Muskan Project” in which free dentures are made to the senior citizens aged 65 years and above.

The Dental college is located in a constructed area of 111495 sq.ft stretched in 6 floors with state of the art infrastructure which has set high standards in terms of Dental Education and creates an environment for excellent student oriented, patient friendly environment with dedicated faculty in place. Currently the college is equipped with 145 latest electronic Dental chairs and has set up a well maintained laboratory with all the latest equipment. There are technology driven air conditioned gallery type lecture halls with audio-visual and multimedia projection capabilities. There are spacious examination hall and seminar halls. The Library is spread in a huge area with good collection of books and National and International Journals with back volumes with an excellent E-Library facility to benefit the students. State of art preclinical labs equipped with patient simulations and Wi Fi enabled campus. There is a Dental education museum within the campus. The campus houses well ventilated spacious hostels for girls and boys separately with staff quarters. The playground in the sprawling campus is ideal for basketball, football, cricket and volleyball and other games. It is attached with the Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital, Shimla for clinical practice.

  • Admission Process

    The Himachal Pradesh University will be conducting the counseling on behalf of the Government of Himachal Pradesh (Department of Medical Education & Research) through Centralized Counselling Committee constituted by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission to Himachal Pradesh will have to register themselves for the Centralized Counselling process of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla admission process by filling out their application form. Himachal Pradesh  MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET-UG. Candidates who will qualify NEET Exam and meet the eligibility requirements can only register and fill the application form of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), MBBS / BDS  admission. Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1, Round 2, and Subsequent MOP UP rounds). Seat selection for Government Seats and for Management quota seats will be through web counseling

    Eligibility For Admission
    1. Qualification:

    • 12th or (10+2 Equivalent) with Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English for UR &  40% for SC/ST/OBC.
    • Those who have qualified NEET 2020 by scoring the minimum qualifying percentage will be eligible for the Admission and Counseling. Candidates should have earned a minimum of 50 percentile (40th  percentile for SC/ST/OBC and 45th percentile for General-PH) in order to become eligible for NEET2020 counseling rounds
    • AGE: A student must have completed an age of 17 years at the time of admission under NEET eligibility or should complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course. The upper age limit is 25 years as of the date of examination with a relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL category and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.

    Government Seats (State Quota)

    Means and includes seats in Government colleges and Government share of seats in Private colleges.

    • 85% of Seats in Government colleges (after exclusion of 15 % seats transferred to All India Quota)
    • Government seats for admission by the University for MBBS/ BDS shall be reserved for candidates belonging to

    Management Quota Seats

    The Management Quota Seats in Private un-aided Medical/Dental Colleges in the State of Himachal Pradesh shall be filled up from the qualified candidates of HP-MBBS/BDS NEET-UG in order of common merit drawn by the University for which there will be no condition of schooling and Bonafide Himachali. Under this quota, both Himachali and Non-Himachali (Indian National) interested candidates can apply online for admission to MBBS/BDS courses through Centralized Counselling subject to fulfillment of minimum educational qualification and age, etc.
