Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) is the first medical college in the state of Uttarakhand and came into existence in December 1995. The college is recognized by Govt. of India and the National Medical Commission (NMC)  and is affiliated with Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun. It has an intake capacity of 150 MBBS and 117 seats in 22 specialties of Postgraduate courses and 6 seats in 3 streams of Super-Speciality Course. 

The institution has 200 acres of lush green campus with Wi-Fi facilities and playgrounds. The campus has advanced facilities, international standards of infrastructure, Multi-discipline faculty, and a demographically varied student body, which transcends the boundaries of traditional education, providing a vibrant environment to promote fresh thinking and exchange of ideas. All the classrooms are provided with modern audio-visual equipment college has a state-of-the-art auditorium. It’s among the best 5 medical institutes in North India and 25 among the best colleges in India. Central Library well-equipped and well-stocked of the University, approximately 2400 square meters in area and with a total seating capacity of 425. The programs of the medical college are residential having hostel facilities separately for Boys and Girls, comprising 520 rooms for undergraduates, 80 rooms for interns & 350 rooms for Post Graduate students.

The Attached Hospital

Himalayan Hospital (HH) a 1000+  bedded tertiary care hospital provide emergency, outpatient, inpatient, day-care, community outreach, with over approximately 500+ dedicated competent and service-oriented staff. Clinical board’s general specialities viz. Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Pulmonology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology and Radiology, and three paraclinical departments viz. Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry are working in the  Hospital. Himalayan Hospital has 40 bedded ultra-modern Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Paediatric ICU (PICU), Neonatal ICU (NICU), Cardio Vascular Surgical ICU (CTVS ICU), are fully equipped to provide critical care.

Cardiology centre provides Cardiac Care with CABG, Valve Repair, Heart Surgery, Angiography, Angioplasty and Pacemaker services apart from High tech Cath Lab for Angiography and Angioplasty at very nominal rates (with FDA approved stents).

The Orthopaedic Centre has state-of-the-art equipment. Besides routine conventional orthopaedic surgery, the department also has a facility for Knee, Hip & other Joints Replacement Surgeries with Arthroscopy. Hand surgeries and orthopaedic intervention for congenital anomalies are also being undertaken at this centre.

Neurology and Neurosurgery (Operation of Brain, Spinal Cord and ailments related to nerves including Microscopic Key Hole Surgeries) are also amongst our super-speciality services. Facility for Endoscopy and Minimal Invasive Surgeries is also available.

A comprehensive 250-bedded Cancer Treatment Centre equipped with Modern Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Surgical and Nuclear Medicine.

The state’s first successful Kidney Transplantation Centre also provides facilities for Dialysis, plasmapheresis and vascular access-related procedures for a kidney.

The diagnostic facilities include 1.5 teslas MRI, 64 slices CT Scan, Ultra Sound, Colour Doppler, Mammography and Digital X-Ray. NABL Accredited Reference Lab provides the most advanced diagnostic facilities. A blood Bank with ID-NAT tested blood components is sufficient to meet the needs of all patients in this hospital.

With a footfall of over 5 lakh outpatients and 50000 inpatients every year, the hospital is catering to the people of Uttarakhand adjoining districts of Utter Pradesh. The hospital also gives importance to academic activities by conducting CMEs and Conferences.

    Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Uttarakhand

    The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Uttarakhand will have to register themselves through Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Medical University by filling out their application form. Uttarakhand, MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET. Candidates who will qualify NEET Exam and meet the eligibility requirements can only register and fill the application form for Uttarakhand  MBBS / BDS  admission. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Medical University Uttarakhand counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1(online), Round 2(Physical Counseling), and Mop-up Round(Physical Counseling)). 

    Centralized counseling will be conducted for the following quota of seats:-

    • M.B.B.S./B.D.S. Courses in Government/Private Medical/Dental Colleges/ Private Medical College affiliated with the State Private University of Uttarakhand against State quota seats.
    • M.B.B.S. /B.D.S. Courses in Government/Private Medical/Dental Colleges/Private Medical College affiliated with the State Private University of Uttarakhand against All India-Management Quota seats.

    Eligibility For Admission
    1. Qualification:

    • 12th or (10+2 Equivalent) with Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English for UR &  40% for SC/ST/OBC.
    • Those who have qualified NEET 2020 by scoring the minimum qualifying percentage will be eligible for the Admission and Counseling. Candidates should have earned a minimum of 50 percentile (40th  percentile for SC/ST/OBC and 45th percentile for General-PH) in order to become eligible for NEET 2020 counseling rounds
    • He/she has completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year Undergraduate Medical Courses.

    Government Seats (Competent Authority Quota)

    Means and includes seats in Government colleges and Government share of seats in Private colleges.

    • 85% of Seats in Government colleges (after exclusion of 15 % seats transferred to All India Quota)
    • Domicile/Permanent residents eligibility criteria:-
    1. Candidates who are Domicile/Permanent residents of Uttarakhand and have passed both High school (10th) and Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized educational institution situated in the State of Uttarakhand.
    2. Candidates who are not Domicile/Permanent residents of Uttarakhand but have passed both High school (10th) and Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized educational institutions situated in the State of Uttarakhand shall also be eligible but they will not be entitled for any type of reservation.
    3. Candidates who are Domicile/Permanent residents of Uttarakhand but have passed High school (10th) and/or Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized educational institutions situated outside the State of Uttarakhand shall also be eligible
