The college has a rich history and is one of the most seeked Medical college of Madhya Pradesh and it was established in the year1955 and was inaugurated by Pt. Lal Bahadur Shastriji. It is an autonomous body registered with Registrar Firms and Society Govt. of M.P. affiliated with the Madhya Pradesh Medical Sciences University, Jabalpur (MPMSU) and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC), India. The Medical College has an annual intake of 250 MBBS seats, 165 seats in 22 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 4 seats in 3 disciplines of Super-Specialization studies.

The college is located in the campus of over 14 acres which is housed in Fort of Fatehgarh which was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. There are excellent spacious digital 4 Lecture theatres and 1 air-conditioned gallery type lecture hall, Separate common rooms for boys and girls, Demonstration rooms, 4 Examination hall. There are well-equipped Departmental museums which has a greatly advanced Anatomy labs and other labs for clinical exposure. Huge Central Auditorium and Seminar halls are in place. Separate Hostels for boys and girls with mess facility within the campus ranging from Hostel No: A to H. Recreational activities like Indoor and Outdoor games with Lawn Tennis court, Badminton court, Basketball court and Sports complex which houses separate gym for Boys and Girls along with a multi-activity hall and table tennis arena available within the campus. Central Library is spread in a very wide area and is fully air-conditioned with separate reading rooms for UG, PG and Staff. The MCC/DGHS will be doing Counseling for 15% AIQ, 100% Deemed Universities, Central Universities (Delhi University, AMU & BHU including Institutional/ Domicile Quota), ESIC, AFMC(only Registration Part) &I.P University (VMMC & SJH AND ABVIMS & RML& ESIC Dental, Delhi (15% AIQ + 85% Institutional Quota ) 100% AIIMS, 100% JIPMER and B.Sc. Nursing (only 08 Central Institutes).The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Testing Agency i.e. the NEET (UG) examination conducting body
There will be four rounds of AIQ online counseling i.e. AIQ Round 1, AIQ Round 2, AIQ Mop-Up Round and AIQ Stray Vacancy Round (SLA (C) No. 10487 of 2021 in the matter of Nihila P.P. v/s MCC & Ors. Hon’ble Supreme Court of India) which will be conducted in online mode. All candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across the Country. Eligible candidates may download the Rank letter/ Result from NTA website. Cut-off rank of eligible candidates will also be available on the MCC website (www.mcc.nic.in). No seats will be reverted back after the completion of round 2 of AIQ to the States.

The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Madhya Pradesh will have to register themselves for the The Directorate of Medical Education (DME- MP), admission process by filling out their application form. Madhya Pradesh MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET. Candidates who will qualify NEET Exam and meet the eligibility requirements can only register and fill the application form for The Directorate of Medical Education (DME- MP), MBBS / BDS admission. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME- MP) counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1, Round 2, and Mop-up Round). The fourth round being the College Round, if the number of vacant seats is x, then a 10x the list of registered candidates will be sent to the college and is to be exhausted strictly in order of merit. Combined Seat selection for Government Seats (Competent Authority Quota) and Management quota seats will be exclusively through web counseling.
