A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences established in the year 1985 is the top most Deemed Dental college in Karnataka. The College is affiliated to the NITTE Deemed University, Mangalore and recognized by Dental Council of India with the annual intake of 100 seats in BDS and 66 seats in various streams of Postgraduate Dental Sciences. In addition, It has been recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council and is an affiliate of Okayama University Dental School, Japan and academic mentor to Oman Dental College, Sultanate of Oman. In association with the Smile Train Organization, USA and Cleft Children International, Switzerland, the college has the unique distinction of being at the forefront of treatment and research in cleft and craniofacial anomalies, in the country. The college also has MoUs with Goethe University, Germany, and the Universite de Paul Sabatier, France for faculty and student exchanges.

It has been announced as the 6th Best Dental college in the Country according to the recently announced NIRF ranking 2021 and 5th in 2020, 3rd among the private dental colleges in the country and 8th among all the dental colleges in India (The Week magazine’s “Hansa Research Survey – 2018). The college also won the Best Dental College (2018) Award, instituted by the Indian Health Professionals Committee for "Outstanding Clinical Work, Contribution towards Research and Scientific Publications".

It is also conferred with ‘The Best Community Dental Service Activities Award’ among all the dental colleges in the country by the International College of Dentists, USA for three years consecutively including 2017-18, for promoting good oral health & hygiene among the public and providing dental treatment to the rural and underprivileged people of the society. The college was also awarded ‘The Best Outreach Program’ award by the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry at the National Level for the year 2016-17. The Institution has also bagged the coveted “SUSHRUTA AWARD” for the Best Community Outreach Program at the national level instituted by the IDA Head Office.

The college has incorporated high-end equipment such as CBCT radiographic imaging, CAD CAM Systems, Lingual Angulation & Positioning Device, Zeiss Endo-Surgical Microscope, ensuring that students remain at the forefront of their chosen field. The college has established a network of 21 rural health centres since 1991, spread over a radius of 150 km to serve the motto of “Service to Humanity” and “Dental Health Care Delivery at the Doorstep”.

The Dental college is located in a sprawling campus with a constructed area of 116649.16 sq.ft with world-class state of the art infrastructure which has set high standards in terms of Dental Education and creates an environment for excellent student oriented, patient friendly environment with dedicated faculty in place. Currently the college is equipped with 468 latest electronic Dental chairs and has set up a well maintained laboratory with all the latest equipment. There are technology driven air conditioned gallery type lecture halls with a large greenboard and full audio-visual and multimedia projection capabilities. There are spacious examination hall with a seating capacity of 250 students at a time and seminar halls. The Library is spread in a huge area in the 7th floor of the college building with exhaustive collection of books of over 7828 and 16 National and 60 International Journals with 2299 back volumes. There is an excellent E-Library facility as well to benefit the students. State of art preclinical labs equipped with patient simulations and Wi Fi enabled campus. There is a Dental education museum within the campus. The campus houses well ventilated spacious hostels for girls and boys separately with staff quarters. The playground in the sprawling campus is ideal for basketball, football, cricket and volleyball and other games. It is attached with the K.S.Hegde Hospital for clinical practice.

MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) COUNSELING PROCESS:- A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences

The MCC/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Under Graduate (MBBS/BDS and B.sc. Nursing) seats to the NEET UG/BDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 15% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET UG/BDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of the MCC of DGHS is limited to the allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from the National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (UG) examination conducting body

Candidates who fall under the category of NRI as per the directions/ orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case (W.P. No. 689/2017- Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. Vs. Union of India &Ors.) dated 22-08- 2017 are eligible for NRI Category seats. OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will be eligible for only NRI seats. The eligible Indian National Candidates wanting to get converted to sponsored NRI category have to submit the documents as and when the same is called for by the MCC.

Step Wise Counseling Process conducted by MCC: A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences

There are four rounds of counseling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round & Stray Vacancy Round. Out of the four rounds for Deemed Universities, 03 rounds are conducted online by MCC i.e. Round 1, Round 2, and Mop-Up Round. The Stray Vacancy round is conducted physically by the Deemed Universities for which the list of registered & eligible Candidates is forwarded by MCC to the respective Deemed Universities. The allotment shall only be in terms of merit

  3. The candidate is not satisfied with the present allotment and wishes to participate in the next round of counseling. The previously allotted seat is forfeited and offered to the next eligible candidate
  4. Not satisfied with MCC allotted seat and candidate has got seat elsewhere, so the candidate is quitting and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any of the further rounds

  • Eligible candidates who are not holding any seat can participate in Stray Vacancy Round

Stray vacancies:- (DEEMED)

  • Final Stray Vacancy Round to be conducted by Deemed/ Central Universities (There will be no Fresh Registration of Candidates in Final Stray Vacancy Round)
  • List of ten times (of the registered candidates) of the number of Stray vacancies to be sent to Deemed / Central Universities to be exhausted strictly in order of merit.
  • For Deemed Universities the Stray Vacancy Round will be conducted by the respective Deemed University
  • Eligible candidates who are not holding any seat can participate in Stray Vacancy Round
