Sawai Man Singh Medical College

Sawai Man Singh Medical College, also known as SMS Medical College, is a government medical college in Jaipur. It was established in 1947 and was the 15th centre for medical education in India. The foundation stone was laid down by Lord Wavell, the Governor-General and Viceroy of India, on 13 March 1946 and Sawai Man Singh Medical College was officially opened in 1947. Initially, the college started work in the south wing of SMS Hospital and in the building of the Jaipur Medical Association. In 1952, the college was recognized by the Medical Council of India and the foundation of a new OPD block was laid in the succeeding year. 1952 also marked the beginning of P.G Courses and the first batch of M.D. and M.S. students qualified in 1955. The College is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, located in Rajasthan and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC) with an annual intake of 250 MBBS seats, 432 seats in 24 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 89 seats in 11 Super-Specialization studies which are amongst one of the highest number of seats recognized by any Government Medical college in India. SMS medical college is ranked 27th best medical college in India in the latest Govt of India official NIRF 2020 rankings.

The Campus is located in a sprawling campus of over 28 acres with very good infrastructure. There are huge classrooms, 7 Lecture halls with 5 having a seating capacity of 300, 1 having 180 and 1 having more than 700. There are 22 Demo rooms, Common rooms, Examination halls. . Departmental museums and Skill labs. An Auditorium which accommodates more than 700. Advanced and fully-equipped laboratories continually focuses on teaching, clinical practice, and research. Excellent hostel facilities with well furnished rooms, with separate boys and girls hostel(UG, PG, SS and Interns) blocks are available on the campus. A central mess with good dining facilities is attached to the hostel. Sports and Recreational corner for UG and PG students which includes Indoor and outdoor stadiums and Gymnasium. Facilities to play Basketball, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Tennis, Volleyball Badminton and other games. Well-structured Library spread in over an area of 4000sqmt with a huge collection of Books of over 63,000+ and around 120 Journals  including Indian and Foreign Journals and 18,200+ back volumes. There are Computer lab and separate reading rooms and E-Library facility. The Medical college has Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, Clinical and Super-Specialization departments.

  • Mahila Chikitsalaya - Is a tertiary care hospital & one of the busiest hospital of Jaipur. It is an attached teaching hospital (Obstetrics &Gynaecology Department) of SMS Medical College, Jaipur to provide Obstetrics care and Gynaecological services to the patients. consultation & comprehensive treatment an average of 294 ANC patients and 197 Gynae patients are benefitted daily in the OPD. There are total no. of 90 to 108 IPD admissions /day.  The Hospital has a milk bank. There are approximately 20 to 25 LSCS /day and 25 to 33 vaginal deliveries/day. There is an additional newly built modern 100 bedded mother & neonatal wing.
  • Institute of Respiratory Diseases, Shastri Nagar. - Specialized in treating respiratory ailments such as Tuberculosis, Lung cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc. This 306 bedded institute has respiratory medicine and thoracic medicine departments of Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur. This institute is one of the renowned institutes in North India for chest and respiratory diseases. Patients not only from Jaipur but also from 34 districts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi etc. come here for consulting the highly qualified team of Doctors.
  • Psychiatric Center - At present the hospital has total bed strength of 312 including, 32 in emergency ward and 20 in de-addiction ward at SMS Hospital. It is running various specialty psychiatric services like de-addiction psychiatry, child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry etc.
  • Gangori Hospital - Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, Gangori is a 300-bedded hospital formed by Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society. It is fully functional hospital with specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radio-Diagnosis and a Blood Bank. There are ten modern operation theatres and eighteen-bedded labor room and the hospital registers over 7,000 surgeries and 7,000 births annually. Also, the neonatal ICU is under expansion, going from 14 to 35 beds. PDDU hospital is being the first of its kind in the State to successfully operate the generic drug store and is now smoothly implemented across the state under the name of Mukhyamantri Nishulk Dava Yojna (MNDY).
  • JK Lone (SPMCHI - Sir Padampad Mother and Child Health Center) - It is Paediatric Speciality centre and the Department has 8 units in SPMCHI, 2 neonatal units in Zenana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalya and 1 pediatric unit in Gangori Hospital and has 348 indoor beds.
  • Zanana Hospital - Specialised in Gynaecology and the present bed strength is 534 including Neonates ICU beds (4 Gynae ICU & 4 Neonatal ICU).
  • Isolation Hospital (for infectious diseases) - This is one of the few active Infectious Disease Hospitals in India. It has been established to provide in Patient care and isolation for patients suspected / having infectious diseases.     The MCC/DGHS will be doing Counseling for 15% AIQ, 100% Deemed Universities, Central Universities (Delhi University, AMU & BHU including Institutional/ Domicile Quota), ESIC, AFMC(only Registration Part) &I.P University (VMMC & SJH AND ABVIMS & RML& ESIC Dental, Delhi (15% AIQ + 85% Institutional Quota ) 100% AIIMS, 100% JIPMER and B.Sc. Nursing (only 08 Central Institutes).The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Testing Agency i.e. the NEET (UG) examination conducting body

     There will be four rounds of AIQ online counseling i.e. AIQ Round 1, AIQ Round 2, AIQ Mop-Up Round and AIQ Stray Vacancy Round (SLA (C) No. 10487 of 2021 in the matter of Nihila P.P. v/s MCC & Ors. Hon’ble Supreme Court of India) which will be conducted in online mode. All candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across the Country. Eligible candidates may download the Rank letter/ Result from NTA website. Cut-off rank of eligible candidates will also be available on the MCC website (www.mcc.nic.in). No seats will be reverted back after the completion of round 2 of AIQ to the States. 

    Reservation Policy for 15% All India Quota seats: 

    Reservation Policy of the Central Government for the NEET-UG Counselling in All India Quota is as follows:

    S.C.- 15% 

    S.T.- 7.5% 

    O.B.C.- (Non-Creamy Layer) as per the Central OBC list- 27%

    Who registered in Round-2 & exited with Forfeiture of fees without joining can register again with payment of fees. However, candidates who have already joined and taken admission upto Round-2 of AIQ/Deemed/ Central Universities/DNB will not be eligible to participate in Mop Up Round and Stray Vacancy Round. (Those who registered but were not allotted a seat in Round-1 & Round-2 need not register again).

    2) OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN, NEET UG Medical & Dental Admission/Counseling Board (State Domicile)

    The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Rajasthan will have to register themselves for the Centralized admissions to all State Quota seats (including Management/NRI seats) in all Government, Govt. Society Colleges, RUHS CMS, RUHS CDS, ESIC MC and Private Medical and Dental colleges in Rajasthan  by NEET UG Medical & Dental Admission/Counseling Board or   https://rajneetug2022.in/ admission process by filling out their application form. Counseling for MBBS Students (NEET-UG) in Rajasthan will be conducted by NEET UG Medical & Dental Admission/Counseling Board Jaipur. Rajasthan, MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET-UG. Candidates who will qualify NEET-UG Exam and meet the eligibility requirements only can register and fill the application form for Rajasthan, MBBS / BDS  admission. NEET UG Medical & Dental Admission/Counseling Board Jaipur counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1, Round 2, and Mop-up Round(offline), and the fourth round being the College Round. Suppose the number of vacant seats is x, then 10x the list of registered candidates will be sent to the college and is to be exhausted strictly in order of merit. 

    Eligibility For Admission

    • 12th or (10+2 Equivalent) with Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English for UR &  40% for SC/ST/OBC.
    • Those who have qualified NEET-UG by scoring the minimum qualifying percentage will be eligible for Admission and Counseling. Candidates should have earned a minimum of 50 percentile (40th  percentile for SC/ST/OBC and 45th percentile for General-PH) in order to become eligible for NEET-UG counseling rounds
    • AGE: A student must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission under NEET-UG eligibility or should complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course.

    APPLICATION FEE :

    All candidates are required to deposit non-refundable application fee of Rs. 2000/- (Rs. 1200/- for SC, ST, ST-STA category candidate of Rajasthan state domicile as well as candidate of Rajasthan State domicile whose family annual income is less than INR 2.5 lacs) + applicable transaction charges.
    Note: Candidates of Rajasthan State domicile whose family annual income is less than INR 2.5 lacs and who opt to pay INR 1200/- will be required to submit income certificate at the time of document submission.

    Seat distribution

    As per the regulatory body, there are 3 types of seats, namely - Government seat, Management seat, and NRI seat.

    Government Seats (Competent Authority Quota)

    It includes seats in Government colleges and Government shares of seats in Private colleges.

    Eligibility FOR NRI CANDIDATES

    NO PRIVATE COLLEGE IN RAJASTHAN OFFERS NRI SEAT .As per order no. F.5(968)DME/LC/2018/1997 dated 29.04.2019 of Government of Rajasthan (Annexure-2), following will be the guidelines applicable for the admission in Under Graduate/Post Graduate, Medical/Dental courses under NRI quota in all Government, Govt. Society institutions and RUHS CMS of the State:

    At least one of the parents of students should be an NRI and shall ordinarily be residing abroad as an NRI; or 
    The person who sponsors the student for admission should be a first degree relative of the student (i.e. real Brother / real Sister) and should be ordinarily residing abroad as an NRI; or

    If student is taken as a ward by some other nearest relative [as mentioned below (i) to (v)] such students also may be considered for admission provided the guardian has bonafidely treated the student as a ward. For this following nearest relative (NRI) of candidate, who should be ordinarily residing abroad as an NRI can only be considered:

    • Real brother and sister of father i.e. real uncle and real aunt.
    • Real brother and sister of mother i.e. real maternal uncle and maternal aunt.
    • Father and mother of father i.e. grandfather and grandmother.
    • Father and mother of mother i.e. maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother.
    • First degree-paternal and maternal cousins.
    All NRI Candidate shall submit a proof being sponsor as NRI/OCI/PIO in the form of certificate issued by the Indian embassy/Ministry of external affairs, Government of India for this purpose. In the absence of that certificate a duly notarized undertaking executed by the sponsor and notarized by the Notary Public of the foreign country where the sponsor resides being submitted by the sponsor, it be treated as sufficient as to the factum of the residence of the sponsor.
    An affidavit from the sponsor that he/she looks after such student and will sponsor the entire course fee of the candidate.
    According to the direction of the State Govt., if NRI seats remain vacant due to non-availability of sufficient number of NRI candidates during / after round 2 off-line counseling, such vacant seats will be converted to management / general seats as the case may be. Looking to these directions, the round 2 off-line counseling for NRI seats will be carried out before exhausting the management seats of Govt. Society colleges. The candidate who gets allotment to NRI seats in round 2 counseling shall not be eligible to participate in round 2 counseling for other seats and shall at the time of allotment submit a bond that if he/she does not join the allotted seat or leaves the course before completion, shall be liable to pay the fee for entire course prescribed for such NRI seat.
