The Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool, is a Government College established in the Year 1957 and is one of the oldest medical schools in India. When Andhra State was formed in October 1953, the Government of Andhra decided to start a medical college in the Rayalaseema region of the state and the government of Andhra passed orders to establish a medical college, the third one in the state at Kurnool. The college has produced some notable alumni who have made a great identity in the country and abroad. The college is recognized by Govt. of India and the National Medical Commission (NMC) and is affiliated with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. It has an annual intake of 250 MBBS seats, 139 seats in 19 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 13 seats in 7 disciplines of Super-Specialization studies.
The college is spread in an area of over 14 acres and has an advanced infrastructure with very good and huge spacious classrooms, Lecture halls to accommodate almost 400, Demonstration room, Common rooms, Examination Hall of capacity of 400 & Auditorium. There are departments in both preclinical, para clinical and clinical subjects. It has extensive library and laboratories in each department. There are very good laboratory facilities and departmental museums. Library and Information Centre has separate areas for textbooks section, reference section, stock area, back volume area, periodical section, audio/video section, reprographic section, computer workstation with internet facility and access to e-resources, Librarian office and technical section and Round the Clock Reading Room. Sports, Games and Recreational facilities are available. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available.

The college is attached to Kurnool Government General Hospital which is around 1500 bedded hospital and has 24X7 emergency services and OPD and IP facility. It has Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory services. The Hospital's general specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry & Forensic Medicine.

The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Dr. NTR University Of Health Sciences will have to register themselves for the Dr. NTRUHS admission process by filling out their application form. Counselling for MBBS Students (NEET-UG) in Andhra Pradesh will be conducted by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) Vijayawada. Andhra Pradesh, MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET-UG. Candidates who will qualify NEET-UG Exam and meet the eligibility requirements only can register and fill the application form for Andhra Pradesh, MBBS / BDS admission. Dr. NTRUHS counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1, Round 2, and Mop-up Round) and the fourth round being the College Round. Suppose the number of vacant seats is x, then 10x the list of registered candidates will be sent to the college and is to be exhausted strictly in order of merit. Seat selection for Government Seats (Competent Authority Quota) and for Management Quota(MQ) seats will be through web counseling. Under NTRUHS, the Counselling procedure is divided into Convener quota-CQ (Govt.) and Management Quota(MQ1 & MQ2).
