The Government Medical College, Thrissur, is one of the premier Medical College established in the year 1982. The College was initially started in the campus of the Veterinary College at Mannuthy. By March 1983, the institution had moved to its permanent site at Mulagunnathukavu, where the old buildings of the T.B sanatorium were modified to accommodate the pre-clinical and the para-clinical departments as well as the administrative block. The clinical departments started functioning on 22 October 1983 in the erstwhile District Hospital & Maternity Hospital buildings in Thrissur City. It is affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by Govt. of India and the National Medical Commission (NMC). It has an annual intake of 175 seats in MBBS, 143 seats in 21 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 3 seats in 2 disciplines of super- Specialization studies.
The College is spread in over an area of more than 250 acres which is located in the serene surroundings of Mulagunnathukavu (M.G Kavu) 14 km from Thrissur. The Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) began functioning in the campus in 2009. It has very good infrastructure with spacious classrooms, Lecture halls to accommodate around 175, Examination rooms, Demonstration rooms, Seminar halls. There are Departmental museums and well-equipped Laboratories. There is a huge Auditorium located deep inside the campus. There is temple within the campus. There are three Canteens and Recreation halls are amongst the best. There are separate hostel facilities for Boys and Girls and Indoor and Outdoor Games and Sports facilities. The college has a separate library building which is open 24X7 with an excellent collection of medical books and journals, back volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Technical Reports. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. The college has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.
Thrissur Medical College Alumni Association (TMCAA) have provided teaching materials, audio visual equipment, furniture, computers, academic bulletin board, surgical instruments, instruments for pre-clinical medical training, high quality Histology teaching slides, medical journals and books, TVs, chairs, scanners and printers & LCD projectors to various departments. It has also contributed in computerization of MCCH out patient dept, beautification of the campus. The association has built and donated an Academic Complex in the year 2009, at an approximate cost of Rs. 16 million. The complex consists of one Convocation Hall of 1000 seating capacity, three Seminar Halls of 200 seats, an Electronic Library and a two Food Courts. The entire complex is air conditioned, and now serves as the nerve center of academic activities. The TMCAA has also built and donated an Indoor Stadium cum Examination Hall at a cost of Rs. 55 million, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Kerala for this purpose.

The clinical departments started functioning on 22 October 1983 in the erstwhile District Hospital & Maternity Hospital buildings in Thrissur City. On 1 April 1985, the entire District Hospital was taken over. Construction of the 300 bedded Medical College Chest Hospital at Mulamgunnathukavu was completed in 1987. The primary health centre of Tholur was taken over by the college in 1986, for regular training of medical students in community and preventive care. Ollur and Erumappetty primary health centres were also made available for training purposes. Construction of the 400-bed new medical college hospital was started in 1995. In January 1995 construction of a new hospital complex was started in M.G Kavu. In 2005 December the clinical departments were shifted from District Hospital to the New Medical College Hospital Complex in Mulagunnathukavu.

There will be four rounds of AIQ online counseling i.e. AIQ Round 1, AIQ Round 2, AIQ Mop-Up Round and AIQ Stray Vacancy Round (SLA (C) No. 10487 of 2021 in the matter of Nihila P.P. v/s MCC & Ors. Hon’ble Supreme Court of India) which will be conducted in online mode. All candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across the Country. Eligible candidates may download the Rank letter/ Result from NTA website. Cut-off rank of eligible candidates will also be available on the MCC website (www.mcc.nic.in). No seats will be reverted back after the completion of round 2 of AIQ to the States.

The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Kerala will have to register themselves for the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations KEAM in the admission section for the admission process by filling out their application form. Kerala, MBBS/BDS admission is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET. Candidates who will qualify NEET Exam and meet the eligibility requirements can only register and fill the application form for KEAM MBBS / BDS admission. KEAM counseling is conducted in Three Round (Round 1, Round 2, and Subsequent MOP UP rounds). Seat selection for Government Seats and for Management quota seats will be through web counseling

Reservation for All India Quota for MBBS/BDS Courses in Govt. Medical/Dental Colleges: Fifteen percent of the total sanctioned seats in MBBS/BDS Courses in Govt. Medical/Dental Colleges in the State are set apart for the allotment of the candidates by the Director-General of Health Services, Government of India on the basis of the rank obtained in the NEET-UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), New Delhi.
Reservation for All India Quota for MBBS Courses in Self-Financing Medical colleges:- Fifteen percent of the seats for the admission of students to MBBS Courses in Self-Financing Medical Colleges in Kerala are set apart for the allotment of candidates irrespective of their Domicile as per the rank obtained in the NEET-UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) New Delhi.
